Silence and I

As darkness and light
have their eventide dual

Silence frames the room
spanning wall to wall

I reminisce, nostalgia
stroking my brow

The moment stolen, as time
nudges me, rocks my ribs

Reflection lets past doze
as shadows stretch

Present is perched on the sill
swinging her legs

Whilst future taps her fingers
to the beat of impatience

Disease serves a portion of pain
I wince at the size

Tolerance trips as he enters the room
caught by compassion’s warm grip

Beauty taps at dirt lacquered glass
curiosity parting the drapes

Dust huffs at such intrusion
disperses under duress

Fire in dominance crackles and spits
banishing cold from her place

Strength slips to the floor
a weak breeze bathes my face

Eventually death gathers up what is his,
my shaking soul, and my last earthly breath.
