A poem for Holly (when an animal dies)

I was asked by my friend Claire to write a remembrance poem (in memory of Holly) for the family.

Holly

There's an ache deep inside us
Now you're not around
Our beautiful Holly
Our loveable hound.

Every moment we spent with you
Lifted our hearts
And the pain of not having you
Tears us apart.

Life's not the same
Since you left for '' that place''
And the love that you gave us
Is hard to replace.

You were funny and cute
With your own little ways
And the games that we played
Always brightened our days.

Our house was a home
When you walked in the room
Now the sunlight has faded
We are left in the gloom.

You stayed that bit longer
To love us some more
For that gift, we thank you
Your heart we adore.

We will walk in those places
That you made your own
Remember our time
With a smile not a frown.

You were beautiful, brave
A real blessing from God
Our huggable Holly
Our wonderful dog.
