Do We?

Do we shut out the same starless sky?
With closed eyes as we shamelessly cry.

Do the unsculptured shadows we see,
Bear resemblance to you or to me?

From this pain there is nowhere to hide,
As we dream with our eyes open wide.

Do we watch the same moon amble past?
Was our sleeping space always so vast?

Do we search every inch of our cold linen sheets?
In the hope that our limbs will eventually meet?

Do we bargain and barter with Him high above?
As we question the future of this distant love?

And then whisper out loud that ''this just isn't right'',

With the change of the seasons from Winter to Fall,
Do the days on your calender slow to a crawl?

Do we synchronize sighs when we pick up the phone?
Knowing we're both such a long way from ''home''.

Do we count every one of the five thousand miles?
Would you give all you've got for just one of my smiles?

Do we stare as the couples pass by?
Look away, thus avoiding their eye.

So attracted by two hands entwined
Our own loneliness truly defined.

Do the everyday things lovers do,

Do we wonder if our love will thrive?
If the dreams that we have will survive?

All the rainbows we ever did see,
Are a promise to you and to me.

That our love will continue to grow,
